Funding Programs in Downtown Carleton Place

THE CIP or Community Improvement Plan outlines a jointly funded program for Businesses and Property owners within the BIA.
This program is administrated by the Town of Carleton Place. If you wish to apply for funding, please book a preliminary appointment with the planning department you can phone or email: planning@carletonplace.ca

BIA Member Engagement Funding represents funds set aside as incentives for BIA Members to achieve success in the following areas:
Beautification & cleanliness, Community engagement and events, advertising and promotion. This is a new initiative for 2025.

BIA BOARD MEETINGS

A bit about your BIA Board.

The BIA Board is made up of volunteer property and business owners representing your interests to carry out our mandates of promotion and beautification.

Monthly Meetings

We meet once monthly to work on ongoing projects and vote to continue our works – these are open to attend.

Addressing the Board

If you wish to have 15 minutes to address the board. Reach out via email to add your business to the agenda.

We post the minutes so you can review what we’re working on at each of our previous meetings.

FAQ

Here are some of the questions we get asked most often.

How are we funded?

The BIA Budget is funded by a tax levy on the Business Improvement Area. Every year the budget is discussed at a public meeting and voted on by the board members. The tax levy is applied accordingly to all commercial properties.

Do I have to pay to become a member?

No, BIA Memberhship is based on the address of your business. If you are a commercial property owner OR business owner within the BIA levy area – you are automatically a member. **We will NEVER ask for membership dues or fees to be a part of our business directories.

Are you the town of Carleton Place?

We are an offshoot of the municipal government under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors. Many of our resources & policies cross over with the town – however, we act to fulfil our mandate independently.

Are you the Chamber of Commerce?

No, The Carleton Place and District Chamber of Commerce is a separate membership based business organization. We collaborate frequently, but are independent organizations.
