Anyone who has taken a stroll down Bridge Street Carleton Place lately would have surely noticed a prominent change. A stunning, new addition has been added to the downtown core. Carousel pops out among the shops and eateries as a fresh and chic boutique. While the vibe of this lovely shop feels urban, owner Nicole Hunt is a grassroots, keep-it-local type of woman.
In 2013, Carousel opened on the other side of the bridge, as the area is often referred to. Nicole’s hard work, community support, word-of-mouth, and an active social media presence, helped grow the business to where it was “bursting at the seams.” In May 2019, Carousel moved into a new location at 149 Bridge Street and had a completely packed reopening with line-ups down the street.
Keeping “it in the loop” is what keeps Carousel spinning. Nicole’s passion for supporting local designers, who she refers to as her “makers” is the foundation of her business. Many of them are moms, themselves, and have become great friends. It’s not just business, there’s a personal connection.
As a momtrepreneur, herself, Nicole is very proactive in showcasing local wares in her boutique. Carousel boasts of almost 40 local makers and we’re sure that number will continue to grow. Check out the beautiful handmade tiaras and hairbands by local artist; a sure hit at any little princess’s birthday party! The hand crafted, non-toxic wooden toys are a highly sought after masterpieces! Mom-favourites include tethers, mobiles, jewelry, splash suits, sun hats, and jackets. Some of the popular brands include Melissa & Doug, JellyCat, Hape, Bella Tunno, SoYoung, Calikids, and Kamik, to name a few.
Consignment has always been a big draw for the local residents. Keeping it green by re-using gently-worn quality clothes, while supporting local residents is an eco-trend that Carousel is proud to offer. The consignment portion offers maternity wear, baby and children’s sizes up to 7/8. You’ll quickly discover that the beautiful space and quality labels offer consignment shoppers so much more than just savings!
Anyone who has shopped at Carousel knows about Nicole’s zeal for customer service, high standards for excellence in products and her infectious smile! Nicole’s idea for Carousel started while Nicole was on maternity leave. With a long history in retail and an entrepreneurial heart, she always wanted to open her own store. Knowing her expertise and capacities, she was encouraged by friends, family members and the community to follow her dream.
In fact, Carousel is very much a family affair. Husband Tim is often here to lend a helping hand. You might also catch Nicole’s kids around in the shop or, at least, hanging out after school.
Carousel: keeping it green, keeping it local. After all, what comes around, goes around.
