Carleton Place’s very own Athletic Therapists head to the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games

2015_Parapan_American_Games_logo.svgOwner of ProActive Athletic Therapy – Valerie Beaulieu, CAT(C)- and colleague – Paige Martin CAT(C)- are both thrilled and very honored to have been chosen to work alongside world-class athletes at the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Toronto this summer. These games will have close to 7,000 athletes participating from North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean. Both Valerie and Paige obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and Applied Health Science respectively and are Certified Athletic Therapists.

Over the last few years, Valerie had great opportunities working as part of the core medical team of the Para-Athletics Canadian National team for a US and Canadian National Championships, as well as a couple of IPC Athletics World Championships. A few of Paige’s most memorable moments include being part of two National Championships with the Six Nations Jr. B Lacrosse and Women’s U20 Ontario Storm Rugby teams. She is also currently working with the women’s soccer team at Carleton University.

During the games, both Valerie and Paige’s role as Athletic Therapists will include emergency field care, preparation of athletes for competition and clinical treatments. Valerie will accompany the para-athletics sport whereas Paige will be with Judo.

The Pan Am Games are to be held July 10 to 26 and the Parapan Am Games from August 7 – 14, 2015.
