BIA Boundary Expansion 2022
Downtown Carleton Place BIA is looking to expand our boundaries to include more downtown area businesses. The BIA boundary has not changed since its inception in 1993. Currently, the boundary extends from High Street to Coleman Street, some of Beckwith Street and some of Victoria Street.
What is a BIA?
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an association of commercial property owners and tenants within a defined area who work in partnership with the Town of Carleton Place to create a thriving, competitive, and innovative business area that attracts shoppers, diners, tourists, and new businesses. By joining the Downtown Carleton Place BIA through a boundary expansion, more local companies will have the organizational and funding capacity to be catalysts for civic improvement, enhancing the quality of life in their local neighbourhood and the Town as a whole. The Board of Management is elected by the property owners and business representatives from Downtown Carleton Place.
Why is Downtown Carleton Place BIA pursuing expansion?
1. Our Town is growing, and new businesses are open outside the BIA Boundary. We want to support and include those fantastic business owners and their families in our downtown family! We also know some businesses should be in the downtown BIA boundary but were not included in the original by-law.
2. Beautification and streetscaping closer to highway 7 will attract more visitors to the area.
3. Increased political clout on the municipal, provincial, and federal levels.
Ultimately, this will increase the amount of money/capital entering Downtown Carleton Place in the years to come.
What are the Benefits of Joining a BIA?
We have the time, talent, and resources at your disposal to help fund and organize initiatives such as marketing promotions, event planning, and beautification. One of the most valuable programs we offer is our Downtown Carleton Place Façade Improvement Program to help you improve your building façade. Additionally, we have a flexible Cooperative Marketing Grant to assist you with your special events. Through our beautification program, we beautify the BIA by installing gorgeous plant arrangements & decorative lighting. Finally, we advocate and liaison on your behalf with all levels of government when necessary. We are in your corner and can be a springboard for your business ideas to take flight!

The BIA levy is the funding that allows Downtown Carleton Place to support and run the programs that define our success!
